False Start Bedtimes

Do you struggle with false bedtimes? False start bedtimes are when your baby is put to bed and then wakes up 30 to 45 minutes later. This is what happens when your baby wakes up from a deep sleep.

1. If your baby is less than 3-4 months old, he or she may need a later bedtime.

False starts are common at this age. Babies who sleep between 7:00 and 8:00 pm might be considering this a nap. This is normal and healthy for babies. This is normal for some babies.

What should you do? Take a short nap in the evening and wake up at around 8:00 to 10:00 pm.

Be aware that babies reach 5 months and I recommend a bedtime of 7:00 to 8:00 PM. Babies under 5 months old should not have a later bedtime.

2. You need to adjust the wake windows.

Your baby will fall asleep quickly and stay asleep if you have wake windows. Why? Overtired babies often wake up frequently at night. Babies who aren’t sufficiently tired can have false bedtimes. 3. It is too late to start the day.

Your baby might not be ready for bed if you set a bedtime of 7:00 to 8:00 PM and your day began after 8:00 AM. Little ones require daytime that lasts 12-13 hours, including naps.

You might try getting up earlier if this is the case. This will allow your baby to wake up earlier and set the stage for a restful night’s sleep.

4. Your baby is falling asleep during bedtime feedings.

Good eating habits before bed are important to get those daily calories. Let me tell you something. Sometimes, it takes a little adjustment to feed.

Some babies may fall asleep during a bedtime feed, which can make it difficult for them to go to sleep again when they try to transition to a different sleep cycle.

Try to keep your baby awake during this feeding. Try shifting the feeding to a later time in your routine to see if it helps. You can break up the eating and sleeping routine by adding one activity to your child’s day (e.g., diaper change, jammies). in between.

5. Baby is falling asleep in the crib.

How did your baby look when you put him in his crib? Did your baby seem drowsy? Let me tell you: Every 40-50 minutes, babies switch to a new sleeping cycle.
